The Skinny
The mid-thirties checking centre is nearing the end of the line. The last of six Sutter brothers still playing in the NHL can still shadow a top-notch centre on occasion, but is no longer a huge factor on a regular basis.
Sutter plays the game hard every shift, but has minimal offensive ability. A strong faceoff man, Sutter leads by example.
MILESTONE: Sutter scored his 200th of his career on October 31, 1999, against the Washington Capitals.
INJURY LOG*:
Nov. 27 to Nov. 28 - Flu (missed 2 games)
* as reported by the NHL.
Bio
These Sutter's just never give up, huh? Now solely a utility player, Sutter's grit, character and leadership are always good things to have around.
One of six Sutter brothers to have played in the NHL, Ron was drafted fourth overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1982. He spent eight-plus seasons in Philly, where he posted his best offensive season, 60 points, in 1985-86. He was traded to the St. Louis Blues in a deal that brought Rod Brind'Amour to the Flyers in 1991. Sutter played the next three years with the Blues before moving to Quebec in 1993, New York (Islanders) in 1994, and Boston in 1995. Sutter signed with the San Jose Sharks -- his fifth team in four seasons -- as a free agent in October of 1996.
A WHL with the Lethbridge Broncos, Ron's twin brother, Rich (now retired) was also drafted during the first round of the 1982 entry draft.
